EDUCATION
Belakovskaia earned her master’s in Mathematics in Finance from New York University in 2001. Her master’s project concentrated on credit default risk and was titled “Basket Default Swap in Emerging Markets”. Prior to that, Belakovskaia earned a bachelor’s in Economics from Odessa State Agrarian University in Ukraine with GPA 5.0. She graduated in 1990 and spent a few years on postgraduate work on Ph.D. in 1990-1991.
INDUSTRY/COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
Treasurer, University High School Parents’ Association (July 2019 – present)
- Serving as a Treasurer of the University High School Parents’ Association (UHS is ranked #22 in the U.S. National Rankings by U.S. News) since July of 2019
- Working closely with other Board members to provide support to over 1,200 students, their parents, 60+ teachers, numerous staff and school’s Principal. For 2019 – 2020 academic year, put together and proposed an ambitious, but well-thought-out budget, that exceeded the previous budget by over 400 percent, yet was required to cover the needs for College and Career Counseling Center and other necessary expenditures and programming. The budget was approved by the Board and throughout the year, its execution exceeds expectations. On May 31st, 2020, YTD revenue exceeded 2018-2019 by 408%, while the expenses were reduced.
Board Member, Congregation Beit Simcha, Tucson, AZ (July 2019 – March 2020)
- Spent 2.5 years helping to build Congregation Beit Simcha from scratch, starting efforts in September of 2017 with a group of like-minded people and concluding in March of 2020. As a Board member, participated in numerous ongoing activities on a weekly basis – Shabbat services, adult education classes, religious and community activities planning, collection of food, clothing and other donations to support refugees, women and children in need, marketing, fundraising and Mitzvah initiatives, member retention and new member recruiting, etc.
Principal, Belakovskaia Chess Academy, Tucson, AZ (June 2010 – present)
- In 2010, started Belakovskaia Chess Academy for children to share her exceptional knowledge and accomplishments as a 3-time US Women’s Chess Champion and received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community. The Academy helps Tucson children to develop love for the game, achieve rapid progress and compete at the State, National and International levels.
- Since 2013, has organized and continues to run the Annual Chess & Science Festivals and All-Female Chess Tournaments at Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium in Tucson, AZ with the mission to have a long lasting positive influence on participants, parents and observers, through promoting girls’ and women’s self-esteem, confidence, and ability to compete in intellectual areas and achieve great success in chess and beyond – including math, science, finance, business and life.
Belakovskaia also has been recognized as the “Best Female Employee” – selected at Williams Cos. for her contribution to the Company’s success in 2002.
